Tent cloth

ReissverschlussThe cloth of our trailer tents is made of a very high quality 450 g mixed fabric also known as canvas.

A material piece of art made of cotton and polyester, the fibre combines the strong points of a natural fibre with the benefits of a state-of-the-art, high-tech material. This results in a rugged, breathable fabric with a pleasant feel and great dimensional stability.

The tent cloth, which also sees use by the military, has been impregnated and is ultra tear-resistant thanks to the ripstop material. Ripstop designates a type of fabric created in a special weaving process that confers a very high degree of tear resistance: thicker fibres are incorporated in the fabric at distances of approx. 10-15 mm, giving it its hallmark checker texture. It goes without saying that our fabrics are opaque.

Base

Quaität-Holz-4

The base of our trailer tents consists of a stainless steel frame 3x3 cm strong, to which the 1.8 cm thick, specially water-resistant wood base panel is screwed with stainless steel bolts.

Having said that, the tent poles are worth their salt too, packing galvanised steel tubing and special stainless steel components. This modern finish confers very good corrosion resistance and a pleasant feel.

Yarn

GarnAll our yarns come from the German market leader Amann. Amalgamating a covering of cotton thread with a high-strength polyester core, the yarn is highly tearproof and offers maximum water resistance.

The cotton covering swells upon first exposure to water, thus sealing possible seam holes. In addition, to exclude every last risk, all seams are waterproofed with a specific transparent sealing tape.

Sometimes less is more...

Frequently we are asked: what's that water column all about?

canvasThe watertightness of a tent fabric is quantified in the form of a "water column". For cotton tents, this typically is a water column with a height of approx. 300 to 400 mm.

Our tent cloth boasts a water column of 750mm, which is outstanding for cotton fabrics. And it's more than enough because, in theory, more than 75 cm of water may press down on the material before the first drops will penetrate.

As an all-natural material, cotton is swellable on contact with water, thus adding to the level of watertightness. With synthetic fabrics without swelling capability, the water column needs to be much higher (3,000 -10,000 mm, depending on the material) to achieve the same level of watertightness.

Cotton has a critical benefit in that it allows moisture to escape from the inside. The result is a breathable tent with no tendency to collect condensate, as opposed to a plastic tent. Such tents will be wet from the sleepers' perspiration water even in dry nights, creating a warm and humid microclimate inside.

A cotton tent, on the other hand, lets that water escape to ensure a very agreeable room climate.
